What is the function of hydraulic jacks in the construction of prestressed concrete?

 

Hydraulic jacks are essential tools for building prestressed concrete buildings. Prestressed concrete is a technique for increasing the strength and durability of concrete by adding internal stresses before subjecting it to external loads.

Hydraulic jacks in prestressed concrete construction provide the necessary energy to tension steel tendons or cables implanted in the concrete. These tendons are often composed of high-strength steel wires or strands. Tensioning the tendons compresses the concrete, helping to mitigate the tensile pressures that will be exerted on the structure during its service life.

 

Hydraulic jacks are used to gently and precisely impart tensioning force to the tendons once the concrete has been cast and cured sufficiently.
